Welcome to the Optical Imaging & Vital Microscopy (OiVM) Core at Baylor College of Medicine.
The mission of the OiVM Core is to provide state-of-the-art optical sectioning instrumentation as well as cutting edge image analysis tools for the research applications of a broad range of BCM investigators. This core is dedicated to vital and intravital imaging of cellular processes within cells, intact tissue explants, developing embryos and functioning organs within the live animal. Our users are focused on a variety of applications such as understanding cell migration, optimizing angiogenic therapies, how blood flow influences development and cancer, immune cell recruitment, stem cell-niche interactions and cancer metastasis.

The OiVM Core operates primarily as an independent use core, where users are trained to operate the microscopes independently and are granted 24/7 access to book sessions whenever their schedule allows.
To get started using our core:
Step 1: Fill out our User Request Form with your contact information and a detailed description of your imaging needs.
Step 2: Consultation - Once we receive your information, a member of our core staff will contact you to set up a time to meet and discuss your project in greater detail. This meeting will allow us to assess your needs and guide you to the best possible instrument for your experiments.
Step 3: Training - Once we've discussed your needs and have chosen an instrument that would best compliment your experiments, we will arrange an in-depth training session on the microscope of choice. This comprehensive training will be designed to give you all the tools you need to become an independent core user.
Step 4: Independent Use - Once your training is complete, you will be granted 24/7 access to the core facility and you can schedule time on our instruments as your schedule allows!
